Oy Vey! Chili Dark Chocolate Bar: Limited Edition Flavor
This very special, limited release flavor is a true "Best of Atlanta" mash-up of home-grown brands, Spiller Park Coffee & Xocolatl Chocolate.
When Spiller Park owner, long-time customer & very early friend of Xocolatl, Dale Donchey, approached us about creating a chocolate bar to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Spiller Park Coffee, we were a sure yes. Dale's vision was dark chocolate with his favorite spice blend of toasted fennel seeds, sumac & Aleppo chili peppers.
We started with our Nicaraguan cacao to create a 72% dark base, then slowly added powdered sumac & dried Aleppo chilis to the grinding chocolate. These spices add a bit of bright, citrusy acidity to the chocolate for contrast, while the toasted fennel seeds sprinkled on the back of each bar complements our Nicaraguan chocolate's natural anise-like flavor profile. Spice level? A whisper of heat like the sun on your shoulders on a sunny September day.
This bar is co-released with Spiller Park Coffee to celebrate their 10 year anniversary and we can't get enough of it. The savory quality of the bar makes it a perfect midday snack. Pair it with a chunk of fresh, toasted sourdough. But try it while it's out--this limited edition bar won't last forever.
